Create Dashboard Templates for Quick and Easy Data Visualization

One of the most valuable capabilities of the Axonius toolset is to quickly collect the current posture of managed assets and variables within your network. Beginning with version 4.1 and later, it is easier than ever to quickly visualize and understand what items exist on your network, and where you can find them.

For our use case, let's say you are interested in collecting all versions of a specific type of deployed software. We will keep it simple and leverage Chrome. In previous OS versions we would create the Query first and then move to the Dashboard section and build the chart. Now, you can go straight to the Dashboard section and build, define, and refine the search to visualize the data and export if necessary.

From the Dashboard tab, click the + symbol, and choose Field Segmentation as the chart metric.

Select 'Devices' for the Module and leave the QUERY fields empty.

For Segment by, use the Aggregated, Axonius symbol setting, and for FIELD, select 'Installed Software: Software Name and Version'. For Filter by fields, select Software name, contains, chrome. Then click 'SAVE'.

Similar to previous versions, all Chrome software and versions will be listed with occurrence values.

The new granular controls come into play on version 4.1 by allowing you to continually refine the search after assessing the results.

For example, maybe we are trying to locate outdated, or even worse, vulnerable versions of software that exist within our network. We can continue to narrow the scope of the search to find versions that meet our criteria. Click the 'Edit' button from the drop down and the '+' symbol under the Filter by field to add a new row.

Notice the additional filtering options, as you can choose between the 'AND / OR' relation options, or even choose to negate a variable by clicking the 'NOT' operator.

In this use case, we will look for all Chrome versions earlier than 80. Select Software Version, earlier than, 80. Then click, 'SAVE'.

Our results show us we have two instances of Chrome software earlier than version 80.

If we click on one of the grey result bars, Axonius will take us to the Device results page where we can view the asset that has the legacy, or potentially vulnerable, software version.

But perhaps we want to quickly pivot again, only this time we are interested in viewing Firefox software versions.

From the drop down menu on the Dashboard, select 'Move or Copy', and then click, 'OK'.

Open up the Copy, rename the dashboard, change the Software Name field to contains Firefox (remove the bottom filter for software versions), and then click, 'SAVE'.

Once again you will be able to view all of the Firefox versions present within your environment, and can continue to refine and search for devices that need updating and remediation.

Lastly, don't forget at any time you can leverage an existing query and add it into the Dashboard to provide more detailed information.

In this example we will edit the Dashboard by starting to type 'seen' in the query field. All of the saved or packaged queries will appear that contain the words 'seen' in their title.

We will select the 'Devices Seen in Last 30 Days' query to further filter our results.

Remember to save your base Dashboard templates before expanding your searches by making a copy.
